“You’re still hurting.”

“No,” she said on a breath. “Not exactly. More…puzzled. That I still don’t really know why we fell apart. Unless he simply got bored with me.”

“Then the man was an idiot.” When Mia’s eyes zinged to his, he added, “You’re aggravating as hell, and unpredictable, and borderline crazy, but if it’s one thing you’re not, it’s boring. And you need to…to get over the jerk and get back out there and find someone who…whoappreciates you.”

She stared him down for a second or two, then grabbed her empty cup and stormed back to the kitchen. “Yeah, I’ll do that. First chance I get.”

“Why are you angry?”

Her coffee poured, she whipped around, apparently not caring when the liquid splashed over the top. “Excuse me, but where do you get off doling out relationship advice? You’re not exactly batting a thousand here, either, in case you haven’t noticed.”

“I can’t voice a simple observation, that you’ve got a lot to offer someone who’ll appreciate you for who you are?”

“By that, I take it you mean some nutcase who’s into aggravating, unpredictable, borderline insane women?”

“Damn it, Mia, stop twisting my words! I mean someone with the good sense to hang on to one of the most giving, honest women he’s ever likely to meet! Some men actuallylike aggravating, unpredictable, borderline insane women.”

“Even if you’re not one of them!”
